to promote the practical applications of planning technologies. Thus, a special session was devoted to describing the technological achievements of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)– Rome Laboratory Planning Initiative (ARPI). Also, two panels were convened to identify the areas that researchers should be looking into to make major a impact in the real world and to discuss the problems of eliciting knowledge for planning and scheduling problems. Over 100 papers were submitted to the conference, but only 32 were accepted. Topics covered in the proceedings included practical algorithms for achieving efficiency in plan and schedule generation, formal ■ The Third International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Planning Systems (AIPS-96) was held in Edinburgh, Scotland, from 29 to 31 May 1996. The main gathering of researchers in AI and planning and scheduling, the conference promoted the practical applications of planning technologies. Details of the conference papers and sessions are provided as well as information on the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency–Rome Laboratory Planning Initiative.

AIPS’00: Planning Competition The Fifth International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Planning and Scheduling Systems
part of the biennial Artificial Intelligence Planning and Scheduling (AIPS) conferences. AIPS’98 featured the very first competition, and for AIPS’00, we built on this foundation to run the second competition. The 2000 competition featured a much larger group of participants and a wide variety of different approaches to planning. Some of these approaches were refinements of known techniques, an...

planner in the Fifth International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Planning and Scheduling (AIPS’00) planning systems competition. Like the well-known HSP system, FF relies on forward search in the state space, guided by a heuristic that estimates goal distances by ignoring delete lists. It differs from HSP in a number of important details. This article describes the algorithmic technique...
متن کاملOverview: ARPA-Rome Laboratory Knowledge-Based Planning and Scheduling Initiative (ARPI)
This dedicated volume of the AIPS "96 proceedings is devoted to a progress report on the ARPA / Rome Laboratory Knowledge-based Planning and Scheduling Initiative (or ARPI for short). The ARPI has been co-sponsored by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) and the United States Air Force Rome Laboratory (RL) since 1989. The ARPI’s main purpose is the development of the next generation of ...
متن کاملPlanning Experiments: Resolving Interactions between Two Planning Spaces
Learning from experimentation allows a system to acquire planning domain knowledge by correcting its knowledge when an action execution fails. Experiments are designed and planned to bring the world to a state where a hypothesis (e.g., that an operator is missing a precondition) can be tested. When planning an experiment, the planner must take into account the interactions between the execution...
